About
Awesome is a single column, responsive, post-format-loving WordPress theme.
Settings
- Go to Settings > Media
- Set the thumnails size to 600 wide by 400 tall and check the crop option so thumbnails are cropped to those exact dimensions.
- Set the medium size to 900 max width and set max height to 0 (no max height).
- Set the large size to 1280 max width and set max height to 0 (no max height).
Theme Customizer
With the Theme Customizer, you can set your title and tagline, upload a logo, set a background image, assign your menus, and choose a static home page. You can preview your changes by clicking the Customize link below your active theme on your Appearance > Themes page.
*Please note: Setting a static home page will remove the default home page elements built into the theme.
Header Images
This theme supports header images. You can use the default header image or upload one of your own. Header images should be sized at 1280 px wide by 500 px tall. The site logo appears in an overlay in this header image area, followed by your site description. All the interior single pages/posts will use the Featured Image as the Header image on the top. There is a theme option for showing only one custom header image on all interior pages if you want to change that behavior (disabled by default). Visit the Appearance -> Theme Options page to change this.
Widgets
Awesome supports widgetized areas above the footer area. For more detail about adding widgets to your site, please read Adding Widgets.
Menus
Awesome uses WordPress’s custom menus option. These can be created in Appearance > Menus. To add a new menu to your site:
- Go to Appearance > Menus.
- Create a new menu item by clicking the + tab.
- Select the pages you want to display in your menu and click the Add to Menu button. If you do not see the type of page (category, tag, portfolio, gallery, etc) you want to display, click the Screen Options link at the top of the page and make sure the page type is checked.
- Once you have set your menu as you want it, click the Save Menu button.
- Then, assign that menu to your desired theme location to ensure your menu appears where you want it and click Save.
Social Media Icons
You can add social media icons to your menu. This theme supports the following custom icons— Home, About, Contact, Portfolio, Photo, Video, Dribble, Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, Pinterest, Google Plus, WordPress, Flickr and Instagram.
In your Menus panel on your dashboard, click on the arrow for each menu item to open the details box. You should see an option for _CSS Classes_. If you do not see this option, click the _Screen Options_ link at the top of the page and make sure _CSS Classes_ is checked in the menu that opens up.
To specify which icon will display, enter the corresponding class name in the CSS Classes box. Please note that these class names are case sensitive. The corresponding class names are: home, about, contact, portfolio, photo, video, dribble, facebook, twitter, vimeo, pinterest, googleplus, wordpress, flickr and instagram.

Featured Images
This theme relies heavily on Featured Images. The Featured Image will become the background image of the post on the Home and Archive pages. On single entry pages, the Featured Image will be set as the header image. If your post is missing a Featured Image, the custom header image will be shown. If the custom header is missing, it won't show anything.
To choose the image you want to set as a featured image for this post and click the _Set as Featured Image_ button. For best results use images that are at least 960 pixels wide.
Post Formats
Awesome supports the following post formats — aside, standard, image, gallery, video, quote —. Some post formats are unique to others except single posts/pages.
-
Standard/Image Post Formats - Standard and Image post formats show Featured Image on top and excerpt/content below it.
-
Gallery Post Formats - Gallery Post formats will show Custom Image Slideshow on the top given you have inserted the gallery into the post.
-
Video Post Formats - Create a post and assign it to the Video Post Format. Paste the URL to the video you want to display into the editor. One cool addition is a Custom Field. If you want to show the video on the homepage like the other featured images, please use the 'awesome-video' key with the YouTube/Vimeo URL as the value. It will be automatically embedded.
-
Quote Post Formats - Create a post and assign it to the Quote Post Format. Highlight the text that you want to offset in a quote and click the _blockquote_ button to apply blockquote styling to the quoted text. To get a separate style for the author, simply add the Author name like this
<cite>Author Name</cite>
